Aims
The Old Melburnians Society's aims, objectives and activities are directed towards supporting the School. The Society's main aims are:
- Fostering fellowship amongst Old Melburnians
- Promoting the welfare of the School and the advancement of students leaving the School
- Raising funds for the use and benefit of the School
Who is an OM?
- Every student who attends the School for at least one year is an Old Melburnian. This includes girls who attend Grimwade House, boys who attend Grimwade House, Wadhurst, and/or Senior School
- Staff who have worked at the School for an accumulated period of at least five years are eligible to be called an Old Melburnian
All students become Old Melburnians at the end of their final year at secondary school - whether they are at Melbourne Grammar School or another educational institution.
Most students elect to become Life Members of The Old Melburnians at the completion of their schooling, by paying a Life Membership fee. Life Membership enables them to stay in contact with the School and The Old Melburnians for their life, to participate and vote at Old Melburnians meetings and Annual General Meetings and to become members of The Old Melburnians Council.
The OM Society
In order to pursue our aims and goals most effectively, The Old Melburnians Society operates through an elected Council and School representatives including the Headmaster. There is also an Executive Committee. The Council meets regularly at The Lodge, home to the Grammar Community. Various sub committees take responsibility for key areas and activities.
Activities:
- Each year a diverse range of year group, branch and other social activities are organised by The Old Melburnians with the support of the Development Office
- Reunions are held for decade and other year groups and for Old Boys (leavers of 50 years or more) on an annual basis
- Branch functions for Old Melburnians current and future parents are held regularly throughout Australia and the world
- There are also breakfasts, lunches and other functions. The social highlight of our year is The Old Melburnians Annual Dinner
- The Society sponsors a number of OM Sporting Clubs to encourage active participation in teams. These clubs include football, cricket, athletics, tennis, lawn bowls, and the Ski Club maintains a lodge at Mount Buller
A database with all Old Melburnians and current contact details is maintained by the Development Office and used to stay in regular contact with Old Melburnians. OMs can keep in touch via the Internet through OMs Online our community database. This can be accessed via the School's website by logging on with your details and peer year. You can also subscribe to a quarterly OM newsletter.
